STEELERS KEEP IT CLOSE BUT DROP 4th STRAIGHT

On the advent of their football team's devastating loss to Oakland (of all teams), the Steelers entered their rare Sunday evening game against Los Amigos emotionally drained, but with a strong bench. Los Amigos provided stiff competition and proved to the Steelers that they deserved to sit a top the D2 Wednesday night division. The Steelers were missing Chayim Ruben (Sunday Jazz gig), Justin Warkentin (Vegas gig), and Michael Kulbak (very recent undisclosed upper body injury). Mike Didulka and Tony Cece were called up from the Steelers farm team to add some energy. Coach Lindsay shuffled the lines from the previous games and rotated 3 strong lines. With Ruben and Kulbak out of the line up, Lindsay and Romanuik demonstrated their 'Wade Belak'-like versatility and shored up the D.

The result - yet another one in the loss column. Some missed chances and some 'interesting' goaltending (a fan was heard saying 'Durigon would have beat the guy to the puck if he had started racing after it about 10 seconds sooner') have the Steelers at 0-4 to start the campaign after a 4-0 loss (last goal scored into an empty net with 1 second left (yeah, they gave it to them). Overall, a better effort at both ends of the rink than the last couple of games.

Next game is Tuesday, October 31 at 11:30 pm where the Steelers will try to put a 'scare' into the Toronto Stingers (did anyone pick up that Halloween pun?).

Let me know if you can't make it.

Known scratches: Didulka, Cece

Room Key Duties: Romanuik

Steelers, a little administrative matter to take care of.

After going through the numbers, I've determined that everyone will get a refund of some amount once the balances paid by David, Darren and Ryan are transferred to my credit card by the league (I'm waiting for the league to do this).

The total league fee was $6000 and change. Based on 14 guys, the fee will be $428.63 each.

11 guys (Larry, Craig, Kevin, Jeff, Anthony, Gualter, Marco, Mark, Michael, Chayim, and me) are in for $500 - expected refund for each player = $71.37

3 guys (David, Darren, Ryan) are in for $456 after having joined the league as individuals - expected refund for each player = $27.37

The math should work, but I'm sure K-Man will want to audit it.

The funds contributed by our occasional subs and part time players will be contributed to the beer fund. The beer fund is being used to pay off the lovely jerseys (for which you will get your deposit back when I get the jersey back at the end of the year.

Cheers.

STEELERS 'LOOKED' GOOD AND BAD IN THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT DEFEAT

There is just no doubt as to who the best looking team will be this year. Yes it's the Steelers. Pretty positive response by all to the new jerseys! While the Steelers 'looked' good in their new jerseys, their game seemed to have remained the same in a 5-0 loss to Stephensons. A trend that coach Craig Lindsay is not particularly fond of. Lindsay was heard saying that for next game there will indeed be a shake up in the line up. That may be welcome news for the Steelers as they found great difficulty tonight in mustering any form of offence - that is until the 3rd period where a number of chances were created by some good fore checking setting a positive outlook for game #4. From a defensive point of view, yet again, Durigon was not strong, certainly missing his 'A' game, which really hasn't been present in any of the Steelers' first 3 losses. Durigon promises to find his 'A' game soon or get a refund on his recently purchased TPS pads. The Steelers also welcomed Anthony Lam and Marco Jones in their first game as a Steelers. Both players seemed to find their skating legs quickly and Marco certainly picked up where he left off during the summer season picking up a couple of minor penalties for crushing a couple of Stephenson guys into the boards - well done Marco!

Kudos to Larry Romanuik for bringing the newly crowned team beer - of course 'Steeler' beer! Thanks Larry!

Next two games as follows:

Sunday, October 29 at 8:00pm vs Les Amigos (from the Wed night D2 division)

Scratches: Justin Warkentin, Mike Didulka, Chayim Rubin

Room Key Duty: Marco Jones (likely to become the permanent Room Key guy for the remainder of the season)

Tuesday, October 31 at 11:30 vs Toronto Stingers

Scratches: None

Steelers - quick reminder.

Game time for tomorrow night is 7:30pm.

It's jersey night - both darks and whites will be distributed.

Don't forget to bring a cheque for $125; $110 will be refunded to you when we collect jerseys back at the end of the season. You are buying the socks.

For those who haven't paid, please bring your cheque for $500.

It looks like we have more players than originally anticipated. Once I collect all fees, I will reimburse everyone what they have over paid.

Scratches for tomorrow include: Warkentin, Didulka, and Jones

Room Key Duty: Kulbak

Thanks & see you tomorrow night.

GO STEELERS!

Rumor has it that after another disappointing loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mark Lee is no longer a Bengals fan and is changing his allegiances to the all mighty Steelers who humbled the Chiefs 600-0 (well it may as well have been).

This recent photo taken of Mark seems to indicate as such. Nice pipes Mark. Put some of that muscle into your shot!

Gents,

Our jerseys and socks have arrived. I have picked them up and they look pretty damn nice.

In addition, the league told us our white jerseys will be available for pick up on Tuesday, so we'll have both home/away jerseys to distribute.

I will fund the cost of the jerseys. However, since they are quite pricy I am asking that everyone bring a cheque for $125. You will get to keep the socks (in essence you are buying them). When you return the jerseys to me at the end of the year, you will receive a cheque back for $110 (your deposit amount for the jerseys).

Thanks.

Gents, if you have been to the league website you will have noticed that we have a pretty silly schedule for October including the bye week we just had. Nothing much we can do - hopefully it's better for the rest of the season.

ASHL's web site.

STEELERS DROP 2nd STRAIGHT TO START THE SEASON

The Steelers took the ice with optimism at the start of game 2. They were optimistic that they would not face another team of a-holes a 2nd straight week. They were right. This game was clean and filled with goals at both ends. The Steelers welcomed three newcomers to the line up - all who made a solid debut. Ryan McGonigle scored his first goal in his first official league game on his very first shift - nice debut! Mike Didulka brought some much needed scoring punch with 2 goals of his own for his season debut. And Gualter Carvalho had a solid start to the season as well with good scoring chances and some solid back checking.

The season high 3 goals weren't enough, though as the opposition Bears tallied 5 times on their way to a 5-3 win.

The next game is Tuesday October 17th - next week we have a bye due to the Thanksgiving holiday (I didn't know it extended to Tuesday either).

Room key duty (1st penalty last game): Michael Kulbak
