STEELERS BLOW 5 GOAL LEAD in 3RD

Just when you've thought you had seen it all…the Steelers played their 6th game of the season and 1st in the E division and demonstrated why they were demoted to E division. After jumping out to a 5-0 lead the Steelers headed into the 3rd period and mailed in the last 10 minutes. The Fat Boys, who provided the Steelers opposition for game 6, notched their 1st goal with 7:40 left in the 3rd. The scoreboard then showed the score being 6-1 Steelers , but it was actually 5-1 (this was confirmed in the dressing room when nobody could account for the 6th goal) - (the league for some stupid reason doesn't like to show differences on the scoreboard greater than 5 goals, so if you score more than 5 goals and the other team doesn't score any, they only show 5-0 until the differential reaches 5 goals again). Then a couple of questionable calls put the Steelers in a 5 on 3 situation with under 3 minutes to go. This is where the Fat Boys went to work and the Steelers went into a coma. The Fat Boys scored two power play goals to make it 6-3 (actually 5-3). Then scored 2 in the last 2 minutes to tie it up at 5 (although the scoreboard read 6-5 and the Fat Boys pulled their goalie to try to tie it up). The game ended in 5 all draw and since the scoreboard read 6-5 they didn't even allow us to play overtime. It wasn't until we were in the dressing room wondering who scored the 6th goal that we realized that we may have actual tied the game. We confirmed as such when we got a printout from the league office and the score sheet showed a 5 all tie.

Goal scorers for the Steelers were: Mike Didulka (2), David Woon-Fat, Darren Woon-Fat, and Gualter Carvahlo (on his birthday - Anthony, I got your message about Gualter's birthday after the game…so no birthday wishes…oh well, belated birthday wishes to Gualter next week.

Darren Woon-Fat had the first penalty of the game and hence, has room key duties for next week.

STEEEEEEEEEEELERS DROP 5th ON HALLOWEEEEEEEN NIGHT AND DROP TO EEEEEEEEEE DIVISION

A very gutsy effort against the division leading Toronto Stingers, provided the Steelers their first point of the season. Last night's game also saw the Steeler's scoreless streak end in the first period when Jeff Garner potted his first of the year from Carvahlo and Warkentin to give the Steelers a 1-0 lead. The Stingers came back quickly taking advantage of back to back to back penalties and by the end of the first it was 2-1 Stingers. In the 2nd period the Steelers had a number of changes including some from Darren Woon-Fat who nearly notched his first, but the score remained 2-1 going into the third. Larry Romanuik tied things up with his first of the season with a patented 'Rominuik Blast' from the point. Warkentin picked up his second assist of the night on Larry's tying goal. The Stingers once again took the lead off a 'what were you thinking-like' turnover in the Steelers end. With just under 3 minutes to go, the Steelers took a too many men on the ice penalty. Ordinarily, that would have sunk the Steelers, but the team pulled together to kill off the penalty and with under 30 seconds to go, the team pulled Durigon for the extra attacker and no more than 10 seconds after that Mike Didulka tied things up off a goal mouth scramble with Carvahlo (2nd assist of the night) and Jones assisting. The teams then exchanged a number of chances in the 3 on 3 overtime period which included a disallowed goal by the Stingers which the referee saw as being kicked in (pretty much the only call that went the Steelers way all night). With less than a minute to go in overtime, the Stingers won in on a shot to the upper blocker side…and with that the Steelers fell to E division.

Looks Like Marco's Going to the Penalty Box Yet Again !!!

Next 3 games:

Tue Nov 7 @ 7:15 vs. Fat Boys

Tue Nov 14 @ 7:30 vs. Team Grey

They have made the schedule to the end of December. I believe that they will do another round of shuffling after this so if we kick ass in E, we may be back up to D2. WE CAN DO IT!

Steelers ...Thanks for the Beer Fund Contributions. I will update the list and post it.

GO STEELERS!
